*****ERPANET Sustainability plan released, new work planned for 2005*******
ERPANET is pleased to announce the public release of its sustainability
report. Seamus Ross, ERPANET Director, commented that 'my colleagues in
the ERPANET Team and I are working to ensure the long-term viability of
this project. The preparation of this report was led by the team at
Maplehurst, a consultancy specialising in the telecommunications and
cultural heritage sector, and it will make a significant contribution to
helping shape our planning and work.'
“ERPANET provides Europe’s and perhaps the world’s most comprehensive
access to digital preservation resources and information”, the report
states, but now the project needs to find a “viable model that will allow
the key elements of the ERPANET network and services to expand and
continue”.
In 2005, ERPANET will be holding a number of workshops, which will include
the topics of eHealth, eGovernment and eBusiness. The project will also be
releasing new research on preservation process engineering (workflow,
ingest), economic analysis of the curation process, and process automation
(metadata extraction). Additionally, a number of investigative articles on
their unique suite of case studies will explore current practice in
digital preservation across a number of information-rich sectors such as
pharmacy, telecommunications, broadcasting, meteorology and banking.
