Bristol Record Office

37 hours per week
Ref: 8572/NRA
Bristol is a highly successful European city: a regional capital and designated UK centre of cultural excellence. Bristol Record Office is part of our Cultural Services Division, which plays a lead role in transforming cultural provision throughout the city by striving to provide quality services that meet the needs of diverse local communities. To that end, the Record Office has launched an online catalogue and in-house digital picture library and constantly maintains a high profile in the local media.
This is an excellent opportunity if you're looking to progress in Archives management. You'll lead a small team of archivists and be a member of the Archives Unit Management Team. You will also undertake the full range of archival duties
Enthusiastic, flexible and highly self-motivated, you will focus on ensuring that documents are correctly catalogued and indexed, and appear accurately on our in-house collection management system and online catalogue, both of which you'll be responsible for overseeing.
With a postgraduate qualification in archive administration and a minimum of three years' PQE, you have a high standard of skills, particularly in cataloguing and indexing. Committed to maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of the key issues affecting a modern archives/records service, you'll also have the ability to communicate changes effectively to colleagues and apply them to your work.
Good IT skills and an understanding of IT applications, particularly automated document management systems are essential, and knowledge of EAD would be useful. Experience of using systems such as CALM 2000, and web server modules, in particular, DServe, in a supervisory capacity is highly desirable.
You must have the ability to take the lead amongst professional equals and motivate them. Above all, you'll need a strong sense of responsibility and the will to see a job through, ensuring that others come along with you to help achieve our goals.
