------- Forwarded message follows -------

You are invited to the fifth seminar of the SRHE's ESRC-funded Research
Seminar Series, at UCL on 8th Jan 2004: "Changing Systems, Changing Roles:
Expectations and Experiences of Staff"
(please see below for programme and registration details):

Five years after the Dearing Report, which recommended quinquennial surveys
to evaluate developing systems of provision, governments and funding councils
have been conducting reviews and developing scenarios for the future. This
seminar series is timely: it will provide a critical examination of the experience
of ten years of mass provision; and draw out lessons to inform policy and
practice over the next ten years in the transition to participation levels of above
50 per cent, as UK higher education refines and redefines itself in a changing
context.

Registration must be made by Monday, 22 December, at the
latest. There is no fee for the seminar (but those registering and not
attending will be charged a nuisance fee of £25). Support is available to
cover attendance costs of a small number of research students. Please let
