Dear colleagues
Firstly apologies for x-posting. Secondly apologies to those of you for this
e-mail does not seem immediately relevant (but you may wish to think about
these ideas in your subject/discipline - I would be happy to discuss should
you so wish).
Just the germ of an idea to start the new year. It appears to me that there
are lots of questions about the education of health professionals to which
we do not appear to have very good answers. The Cochrane EPOC group has
been doing Systematic Reviews on interventions to change professional
practice but only in relation to post-registration education and for only a
fairly narrow range of questions. The Best Evidence in Medical Education
(BEME), as its title suggest concentrates only on Medical Education. The
Campbell collaboration Education subgroup has as yet no review groups in
this area, and here at EPPI we are only doing Education reviews on school
age group.
My experience of coordinating the Review Group that is investigating PBL
leads me to think that the Systematic Review Group approach is an
interesting and exciting way of collaborating internationally to investigate
topics of high research and policy value.
So this e-mail is an open invitation to get in touch if you are interested
in persuing this idea further. Just in case you were wondering no I dont
have any money - so a first task should anybody be interested would be to
get some !
happy new year
