Dear Steve:
1) In several experiments, (published) pupil size increased significantly
with incresasing cognitive demands derived from secondary mental tasks, for
example when (ordinary driving) was compared with (driving + mental task).
2) We could also observe pupil size increment in conditions where the
demands imposed by the traffic environment increased suddenly - for example
in an emergency braking situation, the pupilllary response is absolutely
evident and coincident in time with the moment of maximum deceleration -
when the driver brakes.
3) With increasing speed, the pupil decreases - this effect is what we did
not expect, and we can't explain ...

Subject: Re: [EM_LIST] Speed and Pupil
Dear Luis
I've been studying drivers gaze patterns over the last
five years and especially in relation to highly
demanding high speed driving and racing. Your
findings are quite interesting. However, its not clear
from your message whether the pupil gets smaller
with increased task demands or whether they get
smaller with an increase or decrese in driving speed.
Can you clarify this?
Best Regards
Steve
