Hi.
I have just now seen the documents:
"Identifiers for learning objects - a discussion paper":
http://www.ukoln.ac.uk/distributed-systems/lo-identifiers/
"The PURL-based Object Identifier (POI)":
http://www.ukoln.ac.uk/distributed-systems/poi/
It seems I have been doing very similar work to others...
Addressing: Identification and Resolution of Learning Objects and
Metadata:
http://adlib.athabascau.ca/~hubick/Resolver/addressing.html
That is a *rough* draft of the system I have created as part of the
Canadian EduSource project in association with CanCore.
http://www.cancore.ca/)
I have an alpha quality preliminary Open Source (LGPL) system in Java
(on Tomcat) and OpenLDAP implementing the functionality described in the
above document...
Identifier Resolution Service Software Distribution:
http://adlib.athabascau.ca/~hubick/Resolver/
Our Resolution Service instance in action:
http://adlibx.athabascau.ca/Resolver/index.html
("List All Identifiers" button (please use it sparingly :))
I have also spent most of the last year working through these problems
in the design of our current system. I would be very interested in
working with your group. I have just now subscribed to this list, so
please excuse my late arrival. I would like to ensure the system we use
is as interoperable as possible with current official and defacto
standards. I will try to send comments as I have a chance to more
carefully review those documents :)
