Digital identifiers: bringing digital communities together
Date: 24 November 2003
Location: The Liberal Club, London
Fee: £125.00 + VAT (£146.88)
In this seminar TFPL and TSO join forces to explore the issues facing
organisations as they consider their next - or first - steps towards
adopting digital identifiers.
With the ever increasing emphasis on interactivity and cooperation across
the public sector, organisations, and the individuals within them need to be
able to share information both efficiently and within the appropriate laws
and guidelines.
Digital Identifiers hold the enabling key which allows content producers to
easily create, persistently identify and re-purpose content, whilst allowing
information consumers to consistently find and interact with distributed
content. The DOI (Digital Object Identifier) offers a practical and proven
commercial framework on which to build and grow digital information
communities.
Persistent, digital identifiers, e.g. DOIs, need to be effectively managed
throughout their lifecycle (naming, assignment, publication, resolution and
maintenance) in order to be able to guarantee global validity, persistence
and the ability to be discovered by searching mechanisms. DOIs make this
possible, not only for publishing use but also for discovery, syndication
and assembly into larger information resources.
This interactive seminar is designed for managers and leaders who want to
understand how the use of digital identifiers will make an impact across the
public sector. The programme brings together experts and practitioners in a
programme designed to ensure that lessons and experience are shared and that
gives delegates the opportunity to consider next steps. There will be plenty
of opportunity to ask questions and interact with fellow delegates and the
speakers.
