italian-studies: Scholarly discussions in any field of Italian studies
Hi Pauline,
I looked up Santa Fara myself last night because I am teaching Sciascia this
year and noticed her name appear in 'Il giorno della civetta' too. All I
could find of interest was that her full name is Burgundofara. She was the
daughter of Count Agneric, courtier of King Theodebert II and she refused
her father's marriage negotiations. Instead she insisted on becoming the
Abbess of a convent she convinced her father to build for her. She ruled the
convent (which later became the Benedictine Abbet of Faremoutiers in Brie)
for thirty-seven years. It seems that her official feast-day is April 3rd
but I think in Italy they celebrate it on November 7th.
Not very much help in the context of Sciascia is it? If I hear anything of
greater interest than that I will let you know and I would be very grateful
if you could pass anything of interest on to me.
Thank You,
Ita Mac Carthy.
