italian-studies: Scholarly discussions in any field of Italian studies
Re OSSESSIONE, my reliable source of information "Libri al Cinema: la
Letteratura" says that the film was based on the novel "Il postino suona
sempre due volte" by James Cain (of course), but no mention is made about an
Italian translation. However I feel that indeed it must have been translated
into Italian, and perhaps a quick search on Internet will give you the right
answer.
I would like to say that -while it is quite possible that the movie was
regarded as the first Italian giallo- the impact and the success of the movie
was actually linked to its being the pointof departure of Neorealismo
italiano. It was made before Rome, Open City, Paisa', Sciuscia,, Bicycle
Thieves and is indeed regarded as a masterpiece of a neorealismo.
Regards.
