I am wondering if anyone can help me trace the source of two maps which I
photocopied and foolishly lost the reference. The incentive for you is that
the maps are a great teaching tool, and when we have the source it will be
useful for many people....
I don't think I can send an attachment to this list, so I will describe
them, and anyone who wants to see it can email me and I will send it to you
as an attachment.
The maps are labelled:
Where we live, and
How rich we are
The predominant shading is in blue. in the first map, the countries of the
world are drawn to scale in proportion to their total population; in the
second to their wealth (the measure is unspecified). The contrast in this
visual form is so stunning that students get a great deal of awareness from
it. For instance, Africa is practically invisible on the wealth map. Even
Latin America is a tiny size compared with the USA.
The source was a large format book with charts and figures, and may have
been from a UN agency. It is about 6 - 8 years old. I have checked out the
Human Development reports for most years, and it does not seem to be from
them.
Any help would be very much appreciated, as I use the map but am
embarrassed that I cannot cite the source! It needs redrawing anyway to
update the data, but I don't think I have the resources or technical skills
to do that.
If you want to see it, I can email it, but it may be easier if the list
manager could allow an attachment just this time??
Thanks
