Paul,
For the DiVLE DEVIL project, we use the <relation> field to encode the
journal title to which a particular article is associated (with the article
title described in the /general/title field etc.). The volume and part
information can be described in /relation/resource/description. (The ISSN
no. of the journal can be stored in the /relation/catalogentry too) For
example:
<relation>
<kind>
<source>
<langstring lang="x-none">LOMv1.0</langstring>
</source>
<value>
<langstring lang="x-none">IsPartOf</langstring>
</value>
</kind>
<resource>
<description>
<langstring>TECHNOLOGY IN CANCER RESEARCH AND TREATMENT,
VOL
1; PART 2, page 95-104</langstring>
</description>
</resource>
<catalogentry>
<catalog>issn</catalog>
<entry>
<langstring>1533-0346</langstring>
</entry>
</catalogentry>
</relation>
The above example should be sufficient to allow the journaltitle/volume/
part/page information to be reused 'as is' when the metadata is decoded. If
your application needs features which required the the information to be
treated separately as discrete fields, then may be you can consider the
<extension> field (ouch!). Or is there any part of the 'LOM' elephant I
haven't touched??
Hope this helps.
Best wishes
Boon
