Dear All,
This is to briefly report on the developments in Japan.
On 11 October, the inaugural meeting of Japan Society
for Disability Studies (JSDS) was organized at the Research Center
for Advanced Scienece and Technology of the University
of Tokyo. The business meeting adopted the constitution
and elected officials. Dr. ISHIKAWA Jun of the Shizuoka
Prefectural University is the president and I am the executive
director. Then we had the keynote address by the
overseas speaker from U.S., Dr. Paul Preston, Through the Looking Glass,
entitled "Parents with disabilities and their children without
disabilities". The meeting was reported by the media and
well attended by more than 150 people.
We are planning to organize the next meeting in Shizuoka
around May or June next year.
The url of JSDS is http://www.jsds.org/ (Japanese only)
I wish to take this opportunity to express my appreciations to
organizers of SDS meetings as well as UKDSA meeting in
Lancaster University, in which I was particularly impressed by
the participation of people with intellectual disabilities.
Best wishes.
