Dear all,
In the RDF schema for the DCMI Type Vocabulary, we currently
declare the Vocabulary Term "Image" as follows:
<dcterms:DCMIType rdf:about="http://purl.org/dc/dcmitype/Image">
<rdfs:label xml:lang="en-US">Image</rdfs:label>
<rdfs:isDefinedBy rdf:resource="http://purl.org/dc/dcmitype/"/>
<rdfs:comment xml:lang="en-US">An image is a primarily symbolic visual representation
other than text. For example - images and photographs of
physical objects, paintings, prints, drawings, other
images and graphics, animations and moving pictures,
film, diagrams, maps, musical notation. Note that image
may include both electronic and physical representations.</rdfs:comment>
<rdf:type rdf:resource="http://www.w3.org/2000/01/rdf-schema#Class"/>
<dcterms:issued>2000-07-11</dcterms:issued>
<dc:type rdf:resource="http://dublincore.org/usage/documents/principles/#vocabulary-term"/>
<dcterms:hasVersion rdf:resource="http://dublincore.org/usage/terms/history/#Image-001"/>
</dcterms:DCMIType>
The Usage Board is currently finalizing a decision to add
"Moving Image" and "Still Image" to the Type Vocabulary. Both
of these will be declared to be Narrower Than "Image" itself.
In the RDF version of the term declaration, we plan to express
this "Narrower Than" relationship by adding extra assertion
<rdfs:subClassOf rdf:resource="http://purl.org/dc/dcmitype/Image">
In context:
<dcterms:DCMIType rdf:about="http://purl.org/dc/dcmitype/MovingImage">
<rdfs:label xml:lang="en-US">Moving Image</rdfs:label>
<rdfs:isDefinedBy rdf:resource="http://purl.org/dc/dcmitype/"/>
<rdfs:comment xml:lang="en-US">DEFINITION HERE.</rdfs:comment>
<rdf:type rdf:resource="http://www.w3.org/2000/01/rdf-schema#Class"/>
<dcterms:issued>DATE HERE.</dcterms:issued>
<dc:type rdf:resource="http://dublincore.org/usage/documents/principles/#vocabulary-term"/>
<rdfs:subClassOf rdf:resource="http://purl.org/dc/dcmitype/Image">
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
<dcterms:hasVersion
rdf:resource="http://dublincore.org/usage/terms/history/#MovingImage-001"/>
</dcterms:DCMIType>
This addition seems to us rather straightforward, but if anyone on the list
would like to argue to the contrary or suggest a different course, please do
so by Friday, 5 December, at the latest, as the updated schemas are due to
be published on Monday, 8 December.
Many thanks,
Tom Baker
