Dear Dr Morris
Call for Papers
INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF HEALTH CARE QUALITY ASSURANCE
Special Issue
The Editor invites prospective authors to submit original
manuscripts for possible publication in this special issue
of the journal dedicated to professionals striving towards
quality improvement and its implications for professionals
in all areas of health care.
Editorial Objectives and Guidelines
Quality improvement processes, techniques and strategies
are critical in health care to achieving success and
attaining the competitive edge. Quality improvement is
process and outcome oriented, customer driven and
involves organizational commitment not only to empower
employees but requires a team-based approach to effect
change. More importantly, commitment to quality improvement
by the governing body and senior-level management fosters
quality initiatives and thereby transforms the organization.
The journal is an important resource for a wide variety of
professionals and academics involved in the business of
developing, implementing, monitoring and sustaining quality
programmes in the health care industry, and is of
particular relevance to: Professional managers in public/
private health care organisations, Professions Allied to
Medicine with an interest/remit for quality, Consultants
and other Medical staff keen to promote the use of quality
techniques, Academics teaching or researching in the field
and Personnel influencing the quality agenda within health
care organizations.
The purpose of this special issue is to demonstrate the
importance of professionals (managers in health care
organizations and systems) and their roles in quality
improvement. This reflects the Journal's commitment
towards presenting valuable information, comment and debate
on quality issues impacting on today's health care
industry. The following research questions are of interest:
- What is quality improvement in health care organizations
and systems? - How does quality improvement differ in
health care from business and other
industries? - Is quality improvement similar among
private, not-for-profit and public health
care organizations? - What characteristics within
health care organizations are more likely to engage
in quality improvement? - What types of organizational,
governance and management structures are more likely to
succeed in quality improvement? - How should health care
professionals manage quality improvement? - How should
work systems and job designs be involved in
quality improvement?
- How can quality improvement techniques meet and exceed
customer expectations?
- In what direction is quality improvement research and
practice headed? Are
there new theories, models and frameworks?
