Rebecca
My experience of banking over 30+ years mainly as a supplier has been very
much involved with the keeping of computer generated account details records
associated with branch accounting.
In the early 1970's one of the big four was using 72 tons weight of paper
per night. By using computer output to microfilm they did not need to keep
paper copies and the weight dropped by half. Interestingly enough, although
the large banks have been threatening to stop production of copy information
to microfilm and go digital, none of them have yet done so to my knowledge.
My experiences mainly relate to this aspect of the business and I can give
you a number of contacts etc to help but I am only willing to do so off
list.
Please contact me if you feel this is relevant to your study.
