I have been testing Sharepoint 2003 lately and the following might help:
Clean install the software if possible - If you try to re-install over a
failed installation then you can run into all kinds of problems
Ensure you have IIS 6 installed (It is not installed by default as IIS was
in Win 2000/NT)
Must install using an account with Domain access (and also ensure this
account has local admin rights etc)
You can use the cut down database (MSDE) that comes with Sharepoint but its
better to use SQL Server 2000 (must have service pack 3 or above). Also
install SQL Server before installing Sharepoint.

Subject: share point 2003 beta 2 - help
I am trying to install sharepoint 2003 on a windows server 2003. the
software seems to install sharepoint to a certain section and then fails?
after the sharepoint wizard finishes it should open up the wizard for the
configuring of the server farm but all it displays is 'page cannot be
found'.
has anyone installed this software or can help with my problem, been
working on this for a while and the answer is hopefully easy but i have
over looked it.
