DEPUTY DIRECTOR VACANCY NUFFIELD COUNCIL OF BIOETHICS
The Nuffield Foundation, London, UK
Salary in the range £36,100 to £41,838
The Nuffield Council on Bioethics examines the ethical issues raised by advances in biological and medical research to promote public understanding and assist policy makers. The Council is funded by The Nuffield Foundation, The Wellcome Trust and the Medical Research Council.
The Deputy Director works with the Director and Assistant Director in developing and supporting the work of the Council, assisting with the preparation of its publications, organising its Working Parties and other activities, and liaising on behalf of the Council with professional bodies, the public and the media.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in the fast-developing area of bioethics.
The qualifications sought include a background in one of the following: philosophy, law, public policy, political science, life sciences or medicine, ordinarily to post-graduate level. Excellent drafting and administrative skills and at least five to seven years of relevant management experience are essential.
The appointment will be for three years in the first instance. Applicants seeking a secondment will also be considered.
The Council recognises that the requirements of the post are demanding. It may therefore be willing to consider making the appointment at the less senior level of Assistant Director (with a commensurate salary) for candidates who meet some but not all of the requirements.
Closing date 24 October 2003
Interviews to be held on 25 November 2003
