I probably should have given you a more detailed account of what I do here.
In our current awareness service we include searches from databases (medline, current contents, datastar). I also circulate new book slips (abstracts) that might be of interest to staff. I circulate information on new acquisitions to the library on a monthly basis. I also scan journals (manually) and search other internal reports (data on file and dossiers on our products) and offer information based on these.
I supply current awareness as and when they happen (alerts) on important issues usually with a medical update attached (short summary). Otherwise the awareness occur on a monthly basis for internal staff. For external customers (health professionals such as clinicians, dietitians and nurses etc.) receive a current awareness service in oncology, HRT and gastroenterology on a 3 month, 3 month and 6 month basis respectively.
The services are provided in three manners; email, through the eLibrary on the Intranet and in hardcopy to external customers.
It's a resource intensive exercise, but part of the service the pharmaceutical industry offers to customers aswell as a service we must offer our own staff including the sales force.
If anyone would like to ask any questions, please feel free!

Subject: FW: [lis-wmnet] Current Awareness Services <-virus checked->
We are going to be piloting a current awareness service in our Trust,
covering more than email alerts of table-of-contents and clinical database
searches.
In an effort to approach this in an "evidence-based/best practice" way, can
we ask whether anyone would be willing to share their practices? For
instance:
Do you include conferences, courses, research projects etc.
Do you highlight papers/books published by Trust employees
Do you circulate details of new acquisitions
How frequently do you supply the information: weekly, monthly....
In what format do you provide the information: paper, email, intranet
Do you provide the service on a departmental or individual basis
How does this impact on staff time
All comments welcome!
Thank you
