A couple of book titles for people to read to unwind and think. Both books
are inherently geographical but wouldn't necessarily fall into the remit of
a university reading list (even though i personally think they should be
made compulsory)...
'We Are Everywhere: The irresistable rise of global anticapitalism' edited
by Notes from Nowhere and published by Verso (see
www.WeAreEverywhere.org). Apparently the first print fun of approx. 8000
copies has been snapped up so i would encourage people to look out for it
or order it from their local bookshop - ISBN: 1-85984-447-2.
It is described as '... a whirlwind collection of writings, images, and
ideas from direct action by people in the frontlines of the global
anticapitalist movement' and involved the untold stories of resistance,
reclaiming and subversion all in a positive and life-affirming fashion.
Excellent links and references to inspire.
Second read:
'The Fountain at the Centre of the World' by Robert Newman - highly
geographical novel written powerfully and eloquently sussing out the
subtleties of international global trade agreements, their repercussions
and the way those repercussions are managed by people. Thought-provoking,
informative, powerful and pertinent about the times we live in while
illustrating truths and perspectives that get very little space on
booksheves full of 'shit-lit'
happy reading!
