While I can understand the anger at charities not having the right agenda in
terms of understanding or reflecting disabled people's views because of who
they are run by and what they may stand for, I think it is foolish to assume
that if only disabled people run these charities they will reflect the
diverse views of disabled people. Furthermore, I would suggest such
ghettoism would confirm to many that disability and charity are synonymous
with each other. Surely better to campaign for an enlightened public so that
whoever is involved in running charities - able-bodied or disabled - is
sympathetic with a social friendly understanding of disability given the
contradictions inherent in that partnership.
