One source that I have looked at recently for this sort of information is
the Beep website at
http://www.beepknowledgesystem.org/
which includes cases studies, and some business case / cost savings type
information.
I have recently been working on this issue. Its very hard to quantify
potential savings. One angle might be to look at the incidence of internal
research to assess information holdings of different types (e.g. for
developing IT strategy) then pitch a KM tool as representing a saving in the
costs of having to undertake this sort of strategy research each time. If
the data is there already in a centrally accessible register / audit etc,
then you don't need to spend time and effort (and money) on finding out what
priority should be give to e.g. a strategy for digital image handling versu
a GIS etc etc.
