Firstly I shall introduce myself to the list - I started recently this year as a Records Manager at the Construction Industry Training Board and currently learning my trade!
I have found the role to be a very challenging, diverse but certainly enjoyable. One of the challenges has been the creation of a classification and retention scheme which has presented the following problem and I would be interested to hear advice/suggestions on to resolve this issue.
There is a requirement to retain European Social Fund related records currently until 31/12/2011. These records required for audit purposes can originate from many areas and systems. In many cases the ESF records are in a series among others with do not relate to the ESF projects.
My question is how best to tackle this problem of distinguishing between records on systems/areas as ESF retention requirements differ from the other records in that series/system. There is no current means or process for identifying these ESF records from others.
Any advice or suggestions would be most welcome, thank you.
Regards
Mark Brookes
Records Manager, CITB
