3rd CETIS Enterprise SIG Meeting
South Cheshire College, Crewe
Wednesday 22nd October
10.30am – 3.45pm
Free, all welcome, lunch provided
Background info
CETIS (Centre for Educational Technology Interoperability Standards) has 8
SIGs (Special Interest Groups), which gather together people engaged with
learning technology in the UK, and discuss interest areas relating to e-
learning standards.
The Enterprise SIG is nominally concerned with the IMS Enterprise
Specification; an e-learning standard for transferring basic data about
students between systems such as Student Record Systems (SRS), Virtual
Learning Environments (VLEs) and digital libraries. However, the SIG also
engages with the crucial issues of how to join up VLEs, libraries and
administrative systems to provide fully integrated Managed Learning
Environments for students and staff.
Agenda
Tish Roberts, JISC:
New JISC Development Programme “E-learning Architectures and Tools”
Tish will introduce a new programme “to explore and then establish a generic
architecture for e-learning systems”, and encourage participation from the SIG
Scott Wilson, CETIS:
Enterprise Web Services
Scott’s presentation will be followed by a discussion about web services
Nigel Peet, Director of ICT, South Cheshire College:
Implementing Enterprise
South Cheshire is carrying out a five-phase project, exchanging student and
staff data between systems and improving functionality of information. The
project team includes RM plc, Campus IT and Microsoft Education.
Vashti Zarach, Enterprise SIG Coordinator:
The World of Enterprise
An overview of current developments of relevance to the SIG, and a report on
sessions relating to Enterprise and MLEs at the recent ALT-C conference
Discussion time
There will be time scheduled for discussion, and for attendees’ introductions
