Workshop on Space, Spatiality and Technologies
To be held 12-13 December 2003, Napier University, Edinburgh
The workshop intends exploring research into the direct and indirect use
of space, place and spatial concepts in the design of technologies. The
workshop is being organised by Phil Turner and Elisabeth Davenport.
Target audience
The workshop is intended for academics and practitioners with experience
and interest in a multi- / cross-disciplinary approach to thinking and
reasoning about place , spatiality and other forms of existential
space.
All participants are encouraged to submit an extended abstract for
presentation and discussion at the workshop. After the workshop
selected authors will be invited to submit full paper for review and
publication in a book. We are currently negotiating with a publisher.
Themes
The workshop invites papers and presentations that address any of the
following perspectives on space, spatiality and technologies.
* Space. Geometrical and Euclidian spaces. Pure extension. Surfaces and
contours. Virtual space.
* Spatiality. Lived space, personal space, public space.
* Technologies. Virtuality, collaborative virtual reality, hybrid
spaces for working and living
Outline programme
The workshop is scheduled for Friday (12.12.03) and Saturday morning
(13.12.03).

Submission of proposed papers
4 page extended abstracts are requested. Abstracts should be A4, single
spaced in a 12 point font. Abstracts should be submitted as an e-mail
attachment in Word or RTF by 1st October, 2003. Author names and other
attributions should be omitted from the abstract but should accompany
the email. The abstracts should be sent to Fiona Carroll

Peer review
Abstracts will be blind reviewed.
Authors submitting to the workshop may be asked to review up to three
papers
