GMCDP (The Greater Manchester Coalition of Disabled People) is continuing with its planned series of events to build the activist group of Disabled People in greater Manchester and beyond. As part of these efforts to strengthen and increase the Disabled People's Movement in Greater Manchester and Nationally, GMCDP is holding the next in its series of Capacity Building Workshops in Oldham, at the Link Centre, on 11th October.
Time: The workshop is scheduled to run from 1.00pm - 9.00pm.
Venue: The Link, Union Street, Oldham OL1 1DZ.
The aim of the Capacity Building Workshops which GMCDP has been funded to organize is to build the membership of both GMCDP and the wider Disabled Peoples' Movement. This is a central theme running through all 10 workshops being organised across the Greater Manchester area.
The specific theme of the workshop in Oldham is "Powerful Me". People coming to this workshop will have the opportunity to increase their assertiveness skills, build their self-esteem and confidence and hopefully leave more equipped to deal with the "bricks" that are thrown at us in our daily lives.
GMCDP held the first of these Capacity Building Workshops in Manchester on Saturday 13th September and approximately 35 people attended.
People are not required to register in advance for these workshops so we are unable to predict how many people will come to the Oldham workshop. What we can guarantee is that there will be a range of people from those that have never had any type of assertiveness training to (probably) people who themselves deliver training in this area.
During discussions about this next workshop, the Task Group charged with planning these events has decided that this event will be proactive and fun. It will include games and exercises which are quite short and snappy and involve anyone who wants to join in. Participants will have the chance to try out their new assertiveness skills.
There will be Sign Language Interpreters and a lip speaker at the event as well as a number of PAs to help with any requirements you may have.
The opening session will be followed by a break and then a "Design A T-Shirt" workshop when participants will have the opportunity to produce a T-Shirt with a "Powerful Me" slogan/design.
There will be food, refreshments, entertainment available in the evening up until 9.00pm.
