Simi......DSQ has not published since April 2003. My term of office ended
when the June conference ended. There is no editor. Believing that the SDS
Board would meet its own March 1, 2003, deadline to announce its decision
and then being told it would decide at the June meeting I took no further
steps until June only to realize that no decision was made. I was never
told that no decision was made. Around July 8 the applicants received
questions to answer by a July 15 deadline and we submitted the answers by
the deadline only to find out that an applicant was allowed to submit
theirs during the first week of September. Since the applicants were told
a decision would be made by August this is irregular. Now you say a
decision will be made in a month (October?). Before my term ended I had
accepted several symposiums thinking that I would forward them to the new
editor if our application was not accepted. I now have two completed
symposiums on my pc. I have two others I have been told are ready. I have
another which will soon be ready. I have 25 non-symposium articles ready.
Some of the authors were dependent on publication for promotion and
tenure, but could say they were accepted. Does the Board think it is
responsible to hold things up for six months or so? I do not know for
certain, but I think there are four applicants, not a very large number.
Why has the Board not acted? David
