Hi All
Apologies for the first email. Please note that the date for the session is
21st of October (not the 7th as indicated part way through).
Isn’t that always the way – as soon as you press send you notice a mistake!
Anyways, sorry for taking up more of your email space.
Just thought it was best to clarify now rather than later.
Have a nice day
Jo

Subject: Parks and Leisure Australia - Recreation Specialists in
Disability/Specific Populations
Hi
In 2003 Parks and Leisure Australia (PLA) established a national interest
group for 'Recreation Specialists in Disability/Specific Populations'. This
group aims to cater to those individuals involved or interested in leisure
and recreation in areas such as disability; rehabilitation; mental health;
community health and welfare; ageing; and populations with specific needs.
Parks and Leisure Australia has been very committed and enthusiastic to
support the needs of professionals in this sector and recently ran one-day
seminars in Melbourne and Sydney to a variety of professionals in the field.
In NSW we are seeking expressions of interest from those interested in being
part of a core group to facilitate future development/direction of the NSW
Division of PLA. We are keen for people from a variety of work and skill
backgrounds to be involved, to have their say and take on any role they feel
they can commit to - however great or small. We want to develop an effective
and positive organisation in this area of the recreation field - none of us
have time to waste! We aim to further develop services and support among the
many people involved in this sector of the recreation field by:
* Supporting, developing and discussing issues that are
particular to professionals' in this segment of the recreation industry.
* Assisting in the maintenance of professional networks
* Facilitating positive development and recognition of
the leisure profession
* Facilitating process planning to ensure progress of the
division
To get the ball rolling we have scheduled a brainstorming session on the
21st October.
This session will aim to:
* Identify/clarify the role of the Recreation Specialists in
* Disability/Specific Populations NSW division
* Identify strategies for its effective operation
* Identify key events/dates/aims
* Identify the core strengths of the division, available resources
and how these can be best utilised.
Our meeting details are as follows:
WHEN: Tuesday 21st October
AT: The University of Sydney
Cumberland Campus
East Street Lidcombe
TIME: 12 – 2
WHERE: S Block rm: T206
In order to maximise attendance and ensure everyone has an opportunity to be
involved please distribute this information to others you feel may find it
of interest.
Please confirm your attendance with either Kel or myself as soon as
possible.
Thanks for your interest and support.
We look forward to seeing you on the 21st.
