On the home page of www.adapt.org scroll down a few times for info.
The long march across the country that is part of this, has been going
on for quite some time, and it is to culminate Wednesday in a big demo
and rally at the Senate, to get the long-stalled MICASSA bill passed,
which funds the alternative to de facto housing denial / de facto
housing segregation (the only big ADA case we won in the U.S. Supreme
Court was Olmstead relating to this, but the alternatives aren't very
much funded and widely available, yet; some states are stalling more
than others) by as we say "allowing the money to follow the person", for
services to live in the community rather than be in effect a prisoner in
some institution, simply for the greedy convenience of that institution.
If anyone on this list happens to be going, t would be interesting to
meet each other face to face, after having met virtually on this board..
We could exchange cell phone numbers via e-mail, beforehand, and then
use cell phones to find each other in the big crowd. Last time I went
to one of these in '99? the crowd was way too big to plan to find each
other, any other way.
I will be with the DIsabled In Action of Metropolitan New York group.
