I think it has to work with two lists/ both mandatory. And statement
on learning type needs to be a compound of two.
Something like 'choose' one of A and one of B.
This is not much more complicated than, for instance, format element. You
have to
say what is the
a) physical carrier/what kind of file
b) its size/duration
One can't work instead of the others as they are semantically different.
The same is with educational type I don't see how it is possible to offer
the
choice choice between questionnaire and text when the questionaire itself
can
be the form of text or audio or image.
If you have set of two coded lists of concepts in type and you leave people
to
choose and combine in the process of metadata population you have covered
all the
possible situations. In the same time you can dumb-down to DC type as one of
the
sets matches DC exactly.
I would also like to draw your attention to some existing vocabularies that
deal with
physical carrier and form of presentation for those who are interested in
this kind
of thinking. Maybe not for these occasion but for
the future. I used one of these vocabularies in my present project and
it contains 437 concepts for resource form...outline can be seen at
http://www.ucl.ac.uk/fatks/o_form.htm
just to give you an idea about concept classification. It works in the same
facetted fashion:
you have a set of concepts (grey area) that can be combined in the other set
(white
area of the form outline).... This is only to demonstrate the principle.
