This international conference aims to explore themes relating to the

culture by examining a broad range of topics centred around:

of writing
2) German-language writing adapted for the screen
3) The influence of cinema and the visual media on German-language
writing

*Elisabeth Bronfen will feature as one of the keynote speakers.
*Ralf Schmerberg¹s highly acclaimed film OEPoem¹ (2003) an adaptation
of 19 German poems will be presented. We hope that the director will
introduce his work and engage in a discussion about it.
An edited volume based on papers presented at this conference will be
published.
This revival of the Galway Colloquium will also provide an opportunity
to say farewell to our colleague Prof. Eoin Bourke who will be retiring
at the end of the academic year 2003/04. Eoin, together with Róisín Ní
