Loughborough University has successfully bid for JISC money to fund a
project to look at email archiving practices across the University and more
widely across the sector. The aim of the project is to develop email
archiving policies and models for best practice use across the sector. This
is in recognition of the fact that more and more "business" is transacted by
email and that as a result the University should be looking to develop
appropriate archiving processes so that important documents are not lost or
inadvertently deleted from personal email boxes.
Further details of the project can be found at the following URL:

Part of the project is to conduct an email survey of practices in other
organisations. We are primarily interested in practices in other HE
institutions but would be grateful to hear from any other organisations who
feel they have useful information to impart (in particular from the public
sector). To this end, I would be very grateful if you could answer the
following questions:
1. Do you have any policies for the storage, organisation, retention and
deletion of email within your organisation?
2. If so, is it publicly available (and please could we have the relevant
URL)?
3. Would you be willing to let us include a link to the URL in our final
report.
Many thanks for your time
