Clowns, Fools and Picaros. Popular Forms in Literature, Drama and Film
The German and Drama departments of the Queen's University of Belfast
are organising an international conference on clowns to be held from 4-
6 September 2003. The conference is multidisciplinary in scope and aims
to bring together academics, theorists and practitioners. Over fifty
delegates from countries all over the world including Bangladesh,
Brazil, Britain, Germany, Ireland, Israel, Nigeria, Slovakia, Spain and
the USA will be participating. The conference has been sponsored by the
British Council.
Plenary Speakers:
Rüdiger Görner (Institute of Germanic Studies, London): "In Search of
Masks - on a Nietzschean Legacy".
Mikel Murfi (National University of Ireland, Galway): "The Clown and
Irish Acting: New Directions in Irish Theatre".
Ron Jenkins (Wesleyan University, Connecticut): "Dario Fo: Turning
Monologues into Dialogues".
Zishan Ugurlu (Trinity College, Hartford, Connecticut) will perform
excerpts from Dario Fo's "Peasant's Bible".
