Briefly - I want to vote and will definitely vote 'no'. This is because of
the restrcition placed on private practice working, the time limit
imposed on us to decide, the fact that as a clinical academic, I
have not been informed at all of the proposed new contract or how
it will affect me and others like me (presumably the DoH do not
think I am important - no need for comments thanks!!), and mainly
because I object to being told my worth by the Government and the
BMA who frankly have sold us down the river in the negotiations.
As far as thinking this is the best we can do - it is people like you
Andrew who worry me - you are represeting us nationally, but
seem to think that we should accept this situation as being all we
are worth. Its about time that consultants in this country realised
the power they have and demanded their worth. I fear there are far
too many of us who are willing to roll over and be dictated to. By
accepting this contract we are placing ourselves in the hands of the
government and we will have no bargaining power left for the future.
We are doomed as a consultant group if we continue to accept
such restrictions to our working lives for so little renumeration.
Rant over!
