Yes, and we worked very hard to get decent remuneration for training grades
- and got it. Don't fall back on the old 'when I were a lad' excuse, it's
what kept the pay so crap for so long. Very few people outside of medicine
would consider that a night shift should pay the same as a day, regardless
of intensity; they'd want time and a half or even double time, and their
unions would back them. The same for weekends/bank holidays.
Some SHOs get paid a lot more than me - that doesn't mean I think they are
overpaid, rather that SG remuneration is crap. If we start sniping at the
pay of different grades, instead of being glad that they have reasonable
pay and using that as an example, then we'll never sort the structure out.
