The first meeting of the National Postgraduate Colloquium in German Studies
took place at the Institute of Germanic Studies in London in 1986 and, since
1988, the Colloquium has met twice a year, with one meeting held at the
Institute and the other at another university in Britain. The Colloquium has
so far been the guests of the Universities of Bath, Bristol, Cambridge,
Leicester, Manchester, Norwich, Oxford, St Andrews, Sheffield, Swansea,
Birmingham, and Southampton.
The Colloquium is a friendly and informal forum for graduate students in all
areas of German Studies to present and discuss their current research, and
to make contact with students from other universities.
The 34th meeting will take place at the University of Wales, Swansea on
Friday, 7 and Saturday, 8 November 2003.
The organisers now invite papers from graduate students working on any
aspect of German Studies, including all periods of Literature, the Arts,
Social Sciences, History, and Linguistics. A general knowledge of German
culture and language can be assumed, but not a specialist knowledge of
individual topics. Papers should be targeted to the occasion and presented
using appropriate media. Time for each presentation is limited to thirty
minutes, followed by a ten-minute period for questions and discussion.
Students interested in giving a paper should fill in the form below and
return it to reach the Organisers at the Institute by Friday, 5 September
2003.
