PSI (Policy Studies Institute) is looking for qualitative researchers to
work on a number of its current and forthcoming research projects. We are
seeking applications from people with depth interviewing experience to work
on projects in a variety of locations across the UK. Researchers would be
contracted for a specific number of days, which would be negotiable, and
would mainly be involved in interviewing, although there may be scope for
doing some analysis at a later stage (on QSR NVivo). This work provides an
opportunity for researchers to gain experience with one of the UK's leading
research institutes and to work on a flexible basis, which might fit in well
with the commitments of PhD students or part-time research staff.
The projects to which we are recruiting include:
a.. Independent living in later life, a project exploring pensioners'
perceptions of independence and use of support services. The fieldwork for
this project will take place over the period August 03- January 04.
b.. Farmers' and farm worker's experiences of work and work related
stress; fieldwork to take place take place from November and through to the
Spring 04.
c.. An evaluation of new services provided to people claiming incapacity
benefit, due to start in the autumn 2003
d.. A comparison of the experiences of white and minority ethnic users of
jobcentreplus services.
Payment would be £200 a day for two interviews completed. Interviewers
would also be paid travel expenses, and would be expected to provide
interview documentations and to attend paid briefing and debriefing sessions
at PSI in London (paid at the same rate). An initial briefing session for
the project on independent living in later life will be held at PSI on the
14th of August.
