Dear list members,
The Health Outcomes Data Repository: HODaR
TRIAL EVALUATION PERIOD
From its recent inception, HODaR remains on target to collate data on more
than 25,000 subjects by the end of 2003 across all disease areas, and it is
now the largest source of data of its type anywhere. Ongoing recruitment
now proceeds at a rate of at least 2,000 newly included subjects per month,
and this is planned to increase with the addition of data from re-sampled
subjects for the proposes of longitudinal characterisation.
We are now prepared to release data from the first 15,000 subjects in HODaR
for evaluation purposes, within the protection of a legal agreement. If you
are interested in reviewing this invaluable health economics and
epidemiological resource, please contact our commercial director, Dr Helen
Nelson, or myself using the contact details below. You can also get further
details from our website at http://www.HODaR.co.uk (website still in early
development).
To summarise, these data consist of surveys administered in subjects
sampled from a large geographical area, recognised to be demographically
representative of the United Kingdom as a whole. These survey data are then
aligned to existing historic and future routine hospital health data.
Among other factors, the survey pack includes health utility (EQ-5D),
health-related quality of life (SF-36), disease-specific quality of life
measures (for an increasing number of diseases), self-reported risk
factors, productivity and resource use. A revised survey pack will soon
include concise questions on drug compliance and familial factors. These
survey data are then linked to current and longitudinal electronic data
describing characteristics such as diagnoses, operations, length of
hospital stay, hospital drug use and laboratory test results. In order to
give an example of the extent of this resource, lab’ test results from
these first 15,000 subjects translate into more than 3½ million records.
Phenotypic characterisation of surveyed subjects includes diagnostic data
from 1991 to the present for their inpatient care. Recruitment from general
practice has now been piloted.
With kind regards,
Dr. Craig Currie
