There's a recently published article that might be of some use
for those interested in this topic - especially related to
potential abuses of DNR orders. It was published in the
December 2002 issue of the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society.
It's title: The Effect of Do-Not-Resuscitate Orders on Physician
Decision-Making.
In short, the study finds that physicians are less likely to
order a wide array of medical interventions when a DNR is present,
even though the order is supposed to refer *only* to resuscitation
efforts. By a great stroke of luck, this article is actually available
