Thank you Ruth for correcting my misunderstanding.

I don't think LBDRT became GLAD. GLAD is a voluntary sector organisation
which has been going since the 70s, when it was v much an organization for
disabled people (rather then of). It even had a 'budgie fund' to 'provide'
lonely disabled Londonners with a bird... Somewhat painfully, it changed to
an organisation of disabled people in the late 80s.
By contrast, the LBDRT was part of the Greater London Council, which was
abolished by Thatcher. LBDRT survived for about two years post GLC,
providing a disability resource for local boroughs . I think it is fair to
say that the LBDRT led the way in providing DET and forward thinking
policies for local government. Unlike GLAD the majority of LBDRT staff were
disabled people who were active in the movement. By contrast, when I
started working for GLAD in 1986, I had the dubious distinction of being its
2nd disabled staff member.
Hope this helps

If I am not wrong, LBDRT is reorganised as a Greater London Action on
Disability (GLAD).
