News in the UK is normally slightly less depressing than in the US these
days -
but now Royal Mail is planning to abandon all use of the rail network to
deliver mail in favour of ..... lorries on roads.
If this happens, it is doubtful trains will ever carry mail again. More
road congestion/pollution is inevitable.
Probably fits none too badly the governments new transport policy, which
has reversed direction under A.Darling to fund huge new road projects,
announced last Xmas and again a few weeks ago, with the vague
possibility of road-pricing.
