Manager of the Centre for Usable Home Technology (CUHTec)

A one-year post (in the first instance) is offered to work as part of
a small team initiating this joint venture between the University of
York and the Joseph Rowntree Foundation. CUHTec is to promote a
user-centred approach to the development of information and
communication technology for use in the home. A particular theme is
technology to enable people with disabilities and the elderly to live
independently. An important part of the Centre will be the Responsive
Home - a fully-equipped house that will be used for both the
development and the demonstration of new products and systems.
The successful candidate will work with the Director, Andrew Monk,
and staff in Psychology Electronics, Computer Science to promote and
develop the centre:
... developing and maintaining contacts with manufacturers, procurers
and end users;
... providing content for a newsletter, website and press releases;
... organising CUHTec's programme of events;
... raising sponsorship for coming years;
... reporting to the Steering Group and Advisory Board;
... talking to visitors to the Responsive Home;
... managing the facilities and the utilisation of the Responsive Home.
The successful candidate will have a degree or equivalent
professional experience. He or she will be outgoing, with good
communication skills and be capable of working with manufacturers,
procurers and end users. Experience in one or more of the following
areas would be an advantage: assistive technology; PR, website and
news letter production; occupational therapy; inclusive design; human
factors.
The salary will be on Grade 1 or 2 of the Academic and Related pay
Scale (up to £24,121) for one year starting as soon as possible. It
is hoped to extend the duration of the post by raising further
sponsorship for the centre.
