Speaking as a G & S aficionado, as well as a Kiplingite, it was the first
thing that occurred to me: and for those who are not in the first category,
the operetta concerns the problems arising from a 'mixed marriage' between a
human and a fairy - the human being the now-about-to-be-abolished Lord
Chancellor - I wonder what Gilbert would have made of that?
I don't think my reading has ever come across anything really like one
of Gilbert's patter songs, written by RK: any takers?

Has anyone noticed that Iolanthe (G&S) is subtitled The Peer and the Peri?
