Hi all,
My name is Steve Beech (from De Montfort University) and I'm a technical
developer working on the University's Manged Learning Environment project. I
got involved with PDP through the Centre for Recording Achievement, mainly
due to an interest in interoperability issues and association to other
standards such as IMS LIP (Learner Information Profile).
Here at De Montfort the Student Learning Advisory Service is looking closely
at the introduction af an electronic PDP system (I believe that a paper
based system is already in use - I'll copy this mail to the relevant staff
and invite them to join the discussion). So far, the systems I've looked at
include ePARs (from the University of Nottingham) and RAPID (from
Loughborough University), one or both of which we'll be trialling in the
coming academic year.
My personal agenda is the incorporation of PDP into our MLE (student portal
- uPortal) as I see the portal as being a one-stop-shop for all student
requirements. The MLE already has access to most of the details required for
the transcript part of PDP, so my aim in the next few months is to develop a
simple interface for development planning as a prototype for feedback from
the L&T staff within the University.
Obviously, I'm not a Learning/Teaching type, but am interested in what the
group has to say and how it'll approach the problems, and would be pleased
to contribute with a technical bias.
Regards,
Steve

Subject: [PDP] PDP Bath
Dear Members,
Welcome to the PDP list.
Here at the University of Bath, we have appointed a 0.5 Project Officer for
PDP, located in the Students' Union. The Union has a sabbatical
vice-president with an interest in PDP. Both of us, plus two further SU
staff, are on a PDP Steering Group with representatives from Registry,
Careers Advisory Service and Academic staff. So far, Bath has run four
departmental pilot projects. We have been investigating practice in other
institutions, with a view to developing and introducing further pilot
projects here next semester.
Please let us know what is happening about PDP in your institution: what
works and what doesn't; what problems and benefits have occured.
Best wishes,
Karen Avent (PDP Project Officer)
Duncan Walker (VP Student Activities & Development)
University of Bath.
