There is a reference in "The City of Dreadful Night",
Chap IV, "On the banks of the Hugli" p.228 of Vol II
of "From Sea to Sea", Dominions Edition 1913. This
runs:
'Let us get down to the river and see this stamp of
men more thoroughly. Clark Russell has told us that
their lives are hard enough in all conscience. What
are their pleasures and diversions?'
In " 'Brugglesmith' ", [Many Inventions], the
introductory quote (I've forgotten the proper term!)
is by Clark Russell 'This day the ship went down, and
all hands was drowned but me. '
