JISC is pleased to announce the development of a new Records Management
service for further and higher education.
The service will be developed as an integral part of JISCinfoNet and will be
jointly managed in conjunction with Steve Bailey, the JISC Records
Manager.
JISCinfoNet Director, Bernard Paton welcomed the initiative saying 'Although
Records Management has a high profile at the moment due to legislative
changes, we will be promoting the need for good records management as an
essential part of an institutional information strategy and a foundation for
any system implementation. The synergy between the two areas will also help
to emphasise the fact that JISC infoNet has something to offer institutions
at any stage of their systems lifecycle.'
JISC Records Manager, Steve Bailey says 'This new service is further
evidence of JISC's commitment to raising the profile of records
management and supporting its development within the community at this
important time'. A Records Management consultant has been appointed to
initiate the work. Alan Cameron, who has extensive records management
experience in HE and in the commercial sector, will start work on 1st July.
During the next few months he will be raising awareness of records
management and related legislative issues and promoting the JISC model
Publication Schedule intended to help institutions meet their obligations
under the Freedom of Information Act.
Forthcoming Records Management events include one day workshop on FOI and
Records Management at the JISC RSC Northern on 25th June and a similar event
at the JISC RSC Northern Ireland in August.
Any enquiries relating to this new service should be addressed in the
first instance to either Steve Bailey ([log in to unmask]) or
Gill Ferrell at JISC InfoNet ([log in to unmask]).
