I can understand why someone might be a "bit alienated by the digital
technology." There are a lot of different types of digital recording devices
out there. Most of them, including many of the ones mentioned in this
thread, weren't designed for making high quality recordings of meetings and
interviews and involve one or more significant compromises (e.g. no stereo
recording, low sample rates and frequency response, questionable
reliability, low quality internal mic, no mic-in jack, lack of fast computer
upload, and so on). There are in fact very few companies that manufacture
digital recorders specifically for recording interviews and meetings.
Marantz is probably the most prominent and I'm not sure they have quite
managed to hit the right balance of features and cost for our small and
rather specific segment of the recording market, although I think they are
getting closer.
Alan.

Hi Betsy
My boss was a bit alienated by the digital technology so we went for a top
of
the range old fashioned tape recorder with an additional plate mike. The
results have been fantastic, really good quality recording making my life
(as
transcriber of the tapes) much easier.
The recorder is by MARANTZ CP430 and cost us about #500, i use a Sony BM-77T
transcriber
Good luck with your choice
