XV INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS ON
PERSONAL CONSTRUCT PSYCHOLOGY
WORKSHOPS
UNIVERSITY OF HUDDERSFIELD
MONDAY JULY 14th
a.. Meaning reconstruction and the experience of loss - Robert A. Neimeyer, University of Memphis
This workshop will detail various novel constructivist strategies that facilitate meaning reconstruction in personal and family situations of grief. It will be shown how individuals are encouraged to identify a core of self-consistency, while simultaneously exploring potential for growth.
a.. Investigating children's theories about themselves and others - David Green & Richard Butler, University of Leeds
How can we enable children and adolescents to explain their constructions of themselves and their world? This is the question that this workshop deals with. By examining the child's perception of self and others, there will be an attempt to show how researchers might explore the constructed world of the child, encouraging growth.
a.. The Analysis of Repertory Grid Data - Richard Bell, University of Melbourne
This workshop is designed to present an overview of extracting meaning from the computer analysis of repertory grid data. While the simple aspects of getting grids into a program and running analyses will be shown through demonstration, participants will be involved in making sense of what comes out.
a.. Introduction to Nvivo - Graham R Gibbs, University of Huddersfield
NVivo is an example of 'computer assisted qualitative data analysis software'. It can be used with all forms of qualitative research, enabling the user to manipulate texts and organise analyses in a powerful and efficient manner. The workshop serves as an indispensable introduction to this program.
a.. Living in Anticipation: The Alexander Technique as a means of reconstruing ourselves in movement - David Mills
The Alexander technique provides a useful way of exploring embodied anticipation in order to display the continuity of meaning between what is thought and what is meant, of construing what is articulated both in word and in movement. This workshop will serve as an enjoyable introduction to this interesting technique.
The foregoing sessions will run concurrently, 1:30-5pm.
