John Nichols Prize

University of Leicester
The University of Leicester, through its Centre for English Local History, awards the John Nichols Prize annually for an essay, M.A. dissertation (unrevised), or chapter from a larger dissertation or thesis (unrevised). The maximum length of the work should not exceed 20,000 words and the work should address some aspect of English or Welsh local history. The award is currently £100 sterling. The deadline for receipt of submissions is 31 December. Decisions about the award are expected to be made by early March and the award conferred by the University in the early summer. The Prize has a long and prestigious history, many of the winners (and several of the proxime accessit submissions) achieving publication either in distinguished journals or in the Occasional Papers in English Local History formerly sponsored by the Department of English Local History. There is also the possibility of publication in the series of Papers (pamphlets) published by the Friends of the Centre for English Local History.
