The Family & Community Historical Research Society (FACHRS) has just
embarked on a new project to study the various schemes of assisted passage
for emigrants in the period 1834 to the 1860s-70s. This is only to study the
schemes and who was running them and how, eg landowners, vestry, charities,
etc (ie not the emigrants themselves, at this stage).
If anyone knows of any archives which would be useful in pursuing this
subject (eg estate papers, correspondence, newspaper articles) we would be
most grateful to have the reference to follow up. We hope to cover most
areas of the country.
If any listers wish to actually take part in the project, please email me
for the contact, or have a look at the website: www.fachrs.com which should
mention it.
