Jane and all,
Thanks for the message Jane
You've done well to have been able to contact your students. i'm afraid ours are all off campus now but I'll try to catch them when the results go up. I don't know about the PGs Perhaps I'll just have to ask some individually now.
Does any one else have the same difficulty and a solution to go with it?
Jane, I can't find the date we suggested for the next meeting here in Ayr, but I expect you'll mention it in the minutes. It's just that I was concerned that it might have been either 18th or 19th Sept when the 'Tapestry' conference is on and I am hoping to go to that It sounds good this time.
All the best,
Hazel

Dear All,
This message comes ahead of the minutes of last week's meeting and is intended
for those who were unable to be present then.
At the meeting, it was decided that we might begin to pursue wider aspects of
our work and to this end, the first task could be to engage in a small piece
of research. This would involve getting evidence from 10 students - 5 BEd and
5 PGCE in their first year of teaching to see what kind of musical activities
they have been able to carry out. The data gathering details will be the
subject of your next meeting, but I am sending this to you as, if you are
agreeable to this work, you will probably need to contact your students in the
next few days.
I have had many positive replies from Dundee students so far.
Here is a copy of what I sent to them:
The request
Next session, along with colleagues from five other Scottish universities, I
am to be taking part in a piece of research which will involve me in gathering
information from 10 students who are about to embark on their induction year.
The information I will require will be about your involvement in musical
activities with your class in your first year of teaching. The data gathering
is likely to be by questionnaire and will probably ask you to identify which
areas of 5-14 music you have been able to undertake, whether you have the help
of a specialist teacher, whether you have access to a scheme of music and
perhaps questions about your feelings about confidence etc. There are no
prerequisites for this, so I would be happy to have any 10 of you to be
involved - 5 from PGCE and 5 from BEd 4. If you would like to be involved in
this, please get in touch with me as soon as possible.
Best wishes
Jane
